The Asheville Public: Eggs Benedict taken to a whole new level

By DA | at

Suppose you go to Asheville, NC, with your wife to celebrate your first wedding anniversary. You’re probably expecting the Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain to be the highlight, especially given the spectacular views in all directions.

But you’ll be shocked to find the highlight is the Eggs Benedict from The Asheville Public, a gastro-diner located in the town’s River Arts District that you stumbled upon only because the nearby restaurant where you’d hoped to get lunch is closed on weekends.

You’ll be satisfied with your skillet of potatoes, eggs, peppers, and sausage, but upon tasting the Benny your wife had ordered will also be insanely jealous that she gets to eat more of it. You’ll clench your fist under the table and curse yourself for worrying about the dish’s richness when you read the menu’s description of hollandaise drizzled over poached egg, trout, spinach, flying fish roe, and made-from-scratch biscuits.

It’s not too rich. It fits perfectly on the brunch menu. Which is kind of amazing. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself wolfing down your skillet so you can have a clean plate, push it to the side, and stare at your wife’s dish in the hope she’ll take pity and bless you with another bite or two.

Completely Subjective Score: Infinity/10 (Eggs Benedict), 7/10 (Sausage/potatoes skillet)
